Septic tank
85% of domestic wastewater flow comes from septic tanks, only 3.7% from the sewer system. 33% is safely treated.

In Guyana the public sewer system mainly covers central Georgetown. Outside that area, projects deal with sanitation on their own site. With the basic data on the site and the project, we carry out an initial assessment; the final solution is then developed with the appropriate professionals and permits. This page is general guidance and does not replace legal advice.
Common practice today
Decentralised solutions are the norm outside the sewered areas.

The project plan must show at least the site boundaries, the access, the buildings, the septic tank or sewer connection and the internal drainage. The septic tank must be at least 4 feet from the boundary.

Using the checklist below, Ektennsa and AQUATO look at the capacity, which system suits the project (PUMP, STABI-KOM or ORKA), where it goes and where the treated water will be discharged.
Transport, title or lease certified by the Registry, survey plan from GL&SC and TIN certificate.
Your professionals prepare the site plan showing the septic tank or the plant, the drainage and AQUATO's technical documentation. The application is submitted through the CH&PA Single Window.
For treatment plants, larger projects or discharges into a body of water, the EPA grants the Environmental Authorisation on the basis of the planning permission.
